Enjoyment - Development - Performance
Students of all ages, abilities and ambitions are encouraged to pursue excellence and explore their potential within the realm of the College's extensive sporting program which includes inter-school and intra-school competitions.
The aim of the St Patrick's College Sports Program is to:
- To utilise the framework that sport provides to develop student athletes both on and off the field.
- To provide holistic programs that promote the importance of ‘balance’ between academic and sporting commitments.
- Foster an environment that will allow student athletes to enjoy their representation of St Patrick’s College.
- Empower the student athlete to enable consistent individual and team performance.
- Create active for life people.
St Patrick's College is a member of the Associated Independent Colleges (AIC) and participates in sporting competitions and events as part of this 8 independent school competition. Competitions are conducted across the entire school year through a trimester rotation and consist of a wide range of sports.
The focus of the Program is to implement sports specific curriculums for each AIC Sport. These curriculum program structures have been created to align with the ‘Australian Institute of Sport/Australian Sports Commission’ F.T.E.M and ‘Long Term Athlete Development’ frameworks.
“FUNdamentals” – Years 5 and 6
- Focus on developing a love of the sport and ensuring students are enjoying their involvement in the program.
- Promote and develop the pride of representing St Patrick’s College.
- Basic skill development/acquisition that will enable students to enjoy the game and to transition to the “Prepare to Perform” program.
- Continue to develop and promote the love for the sport and representation of St Patrick’s College.
- Develop the capacity for students to apply themselves and learn from training.
- Identify and develop the potential and talent of all student athletes.
- Educate students on the importance of an active lifestyle and athlete development techniques.
- Continued long term focus of skill development/acquisition that will enable students to compete within the “Performance” programs.
- Promote the pride, appreciation and enjoyment of representing St Patrick’s College in sport.
- Performance” focus on athlete development techniques.
- Performance” focus on both the technical and tactical components of each specific sport.
- Train to perform.
“Prepare to Perform” – Years 7 to 10
- Continue to develop and promote the love for the sport and representation of St Patrick’s College.
- Develop the capacity for students to apply themselves and learn from training.
- Identify and develop the potential and talent of all student athletes.
- Educate students on the importance of an active lifestyle and athlete development techniques.
