Anzac Day Liturgy, Sandgate Dawn Service and March
ANZAC Day Liturgy
Friday 23 April, our young men took part in a very special ANZAC Day Liturgy at the Shorncliffe Pier foreshore. We welcomed St Patrick's College Old Boy, Captain Liam Clarke of the Australian Army, to address the College community.
Captain Liam Clarke attended St Patrick's College from 2003 to 2006 and is now a serving Combat Engineering Officer in the Australian Army. Captain Clarke joined the Army after graduating and continued his studies at the Australian Defence Force Academy — a military institution which combines military education and training with academic study for an undergraduate degree. The Academy provides the academic foundation, specialist education and military training for Australian Defence Force Officers. Captain Clarke was commissioned as an Officer in 2010 and has been posted to Townsville and Canberra with operational service in Afghanistan and disaster relief in Australia. We were privileged to welcome Captain Clarke back to the shore for a special address to the young men of St Patrick's College.
ANZAC Day Sandgate Dawn Service and March
St Patrick’s College students have a long tradition of commemorating ANZAC Day. This year, The College made a significant contribution to the local Sandgate commemorations. The dawn service at 5:00am included a contribution from talented Year 12 trumpeter Conor McAteer, who gave a reverent rendition of the Last Post. Two moving hymns and the Australian National Anthem were led by three of our singers: Jackson Hughesman, Rex Fonacier and Samuel Caruana, accompanied by Mr Consiglio. For Rex and Sam, this was not the first time they had sung at a commemorative service. They both toured Europe in 2019 with the Brisbane Birralee Voices for 3 weeks and had the honour of singing on ANZAC Day at the Australian War Memorial at Villers-Bretonneux, France with the official Military Band.
At the 9:15 Sandgate March, many St Patrick’s boys chose to attend to represent our college, and were led by our wonderful Marching Band at their first official performance.
Thank you to all the St Patrick’s students involved in ANZAC Day commemorations, and to Mr McNally for organising the musical contributions.
