Immersions

Through our service and immersion programs, we aim to stand with those on the margins, locally and globally, and by enhancing our curriculum with themes of justice and peace, we aspire to recognise the face of Christ in others and in ourselves.

Solidarity immersion experiences in India, Timor Leste and Noonkanbah provide our young men with opportunities to experience life on the margins. These experiences allow students to fully involve themselves in new cultures and develop a much broader understanding of the world they live in. Justice education requires going beyond the classroom to being in relationship with people and trying to understand life from their perspective.

Students and staff are given the opportunity to stand in solidarity with people through our immersion programs to India and Timor Leste. The India pilgrimage, created by the late College Chaplain Father Liam Horsfall SVD, is a transformational and confronting experience for participants who spend time in Kolkata, Asansol and Puri. Highlights and challenges of the two week experience include working with Mother Teresa's Sisters and visting schools in Kolkata, sitting and talking with the leprosy patients in Puri, playing with the "untouchable" children in Rajgangpur and of course playing cricket with locals everywhere. In Timor Leste, our young men visit remote village communities in the Railaco area, encountering people struggling every day to feed and clothe their families. They experience a ‘young’ nation building every aspect of national life with courage and dignity in the face of crushing poverty.
